PERFORMANCE:
A pianist internationally recognized as a duo partner, with a complete
knowledge of the string repertoire, and extensive experience with
wind, brass and vocal music. He has performed with, among others,
Ralph Kirshbaum, Silvia Rosenberg and Steven Isserlis, and has a
long-established duo with his wife, the ‘cellist Hannah
Roberts.
COMPOSITION:
Known for his command of a wide range of styles and idioms, Simon
is an international prize-winning composer with many commissions,
performances, recordings and broadcasts of both chamber music and
large-scale compositions to his name.
ARRANGEMENT:
Simon has arranged for many combinations of instruments in
a wide range of styles. His arrangements are known for their fluency,
musical sophistication and (where appropriate!) striking originality.
TEACHING:
Simon has taught Improvisation and Composition at the Yehudi
Menuhin School, and is currently Head of Musicianship at the
RNCM, where
he lectures, teaches composition, aural, improvisation, analysis
and general musicianship.
JAZZ PIANO
AND IMPROVISATION: Simon has given public performances
and demonstrations in many different styles—classical, jazz
and avant-garde.
WORKSHOPS
AND LECTURES: Specialising in twentieth-century music,
and in linking composition with improvisation and aural and theory
skills.
